Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirms that midfielder Paul Scholes will play on for another season.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Paul Scholes will continue to play for the club next season.

The midfielder came out of retirement in January and was a regular in the United side that challenged Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Ferguson has reportedly been looking for a long-term replacement for the 37-year-old for several years, but that search appears to have been delayed again after the ex-England international opted to extend his career by another campaign.

"I am delighted, he knew he had made a mistake. He now realises if he plays 25 or 30 games next season, they will be of real quality," said boss Ferguson.

"I think this will be Paul's last season. We know him very well. We know how to use him."

Scholes has won 12 Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford, which began way back in 1993.
