Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lavished praise on Edinson Cavani for handing the number seven shirt to Cristiano Ronaldo upon his return to the club.
Ronaldo will again wear the number seven for the Red Devils, with the jersey being passed over by Cavani, who sported the shirt during the 2020-21 campaign.
Cavani, who has a contract at Old Trafford until next June, has now taken the number 21, and Solskjaer has hailed the Uruguay international for his conduct when it came to the situation.
"It's one of these things that Edinson has been remarkable, played really well last season, Cristiano speaks with Edinson, to pass up his shirt shows the respect he's got for Cristiano and respect the other way. Two top pros, players, and human beings," Solskjaer told reporters.
Both Cavani and Ronaldo are available for Man United's Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
Ronaldo previously had the seven shirt at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009, scoring 118 goals in 292 appearances for the club before leaving for Real Madrid.
