Report: Swansea City targeting Ryan Giggs to replace Garry Monk

Swansea are reportedly ready to offer Ryan Giggs his first managerial role by appointing the Manchester United assistant as Garry Monk's replacement.

Swansea City are lining up a surprise move to bring Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs to the club to replace Garry Monk, according to a report.

Swansea sacked Monk on Wednesday after a run of just a single win from their last 11 matches, despite their former captain leading the club to their best-ever top-flight finish last season.

Speculation is now mounting over who will be named as the former centre-back's replacement, and The Sun claims that Swans chairman Huw Jenkins is set to make a surprise move to bring untested Giggs to the Liberty Stadium.

The report claims that Giggs could be tempted to make the move into his first managerial role if he does not receive assurances about his future at Old Trafford and the possibility of him taking over from current Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal when the Dutchman steps down.

Giggs's only previous experience as head coach came in the form of a brief spell as caretaker boss following the sacking of David Moyes in 2014, but it is thought that he fits the club's bill of appointing relatively untested managers such as Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers.

The managerless Swans, currently just a point outside the Premier League relegation zone in 15th, face a daunting trip to Manchester City on Saturday.
