Danny Welbeck 'could start on wing against Manchester United'

Danny Welbeck worries that his impact on a game from the wing will diminish.

Danny Welbeck has been warned by manager Arsene Wenger that he may have to start on the wing when Arsenal face Manchester United this weekend.

The England forward has played in a central attacking position since joining the Gunners in August.

However, with Olivier Giroud returning from injury, Wenger has suggested that the ex-Manchester United target man could switch positions and Welbeck has hinted that a change of role could have a negative effect.

He is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "I was playing on the left wing a lot in a 4-4-2, which is very difficult for me, because I can't make an impact on the game.

"I can play it to the best of my ability, but that's not best for the team. I could make a bigger impact playing in my preferred position (up front)."

Welbeck scored 20 goals in 90 games during his time at Manchester United.
