How Man Utd could line up without Pogba, Lukaku but with Wan-Bissaka, Rabiot

Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku could leave Manchester United this summer, but how might the starting lineup look with the additions of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Adrien Rabiot?

A sixth-placed finish in the Premier League table during the most recent campaign has resulted in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coming under pressure to make significant changes to his Manchester United squad this summer.

The Norwegian seemingly has his own targets in mind, with Daniel James already through the door from Swansea City and Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka being heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford.

Adrien Rabiot is another player said to be on the shortlist now that the Paris Saint-Germain man is less than two weeks away from being available on a free transfer.

However, Solskjaer faces a fight to keep some of his big names at the club, most notably Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, who are attracting interest from Real Madrid and Inter Milan respectively.

United have allegedly set their valuations for each of the duo, although it remains unclear at this stage of the transfer window whether the Premier League giants are prepared to budge on the respective price-tags.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how United could line up if they are unable to keep hold of the pair, while also taking into consideration the potential additions of Wan-Bissaka and Rabiot.

Solskjaer already has Ashley Young and Diogo Dalot at his disposal, but England Under-21 international Wan-Bissaka will likely be preferred from the beginning of the season should he move to the North-West of England.

However, Solskjaer would have bigger decisions to make further forward given the amount of goals that Pogba and Lukaku have provided over the past two years.

Marcus Rashford would almost certainly take on the leading central-striker role, although no pace would be lost on the flanks due to the acquisition of Welshman James.

The 21-year-old may not be considered first choice in August, although Solskjaer has suggested in the past that he wants to go with pace in the final third, perhaps an indication that Anthony Martial will feature out on the left.

The exit of Ander Herrera means that Rabiot would almost certainly be thrown straight into the starting lineup as Solskjaer looks for another industrious player to complement Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay.

Rabiot would not be expected to contribute the same amount of creativity as Pogba, but Solskjaer will prioritise making United more difficult to beat from the middle of August onwards.

That should lead to the Frenchman being given the nod over the likes of Fred and Andreas Pereira.
