Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly been informed that they will need to offer £220,000 a week to sign French international Adrien Rabiot.

Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly been informed that they will need to offer £220,000 a week to sign French international Adrien Rabiot.

The 29-year-old midfielder became a free agent this summer following the expiration of his contract with Serie A giants Juventus.

Although Rabiot was offered new terms to remain in Turin, the parties could not reach an agreement, leading to his departure from the club after five years.

The Frenchman was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer with the likes of Man United, Arsenal and Newcastle credited with interest in his services.

However, Rabiot's wage demands proved to be a stumbling block for potential suitors, especially with the Frenchman having not played competitive club football for over three months.

Rabiot demanding £220,000 a week in wages

According to GiveMeSport, Rabiot is demanding £220,000 a week in wages, in addition to a signing bonus and commission for his agent and mother Veronique.

The report adds that while the 29-year-old remains a highly sought-after talent, his high wage demands seem to be acting as a deterrent for English clubs.

It is understood that the major concern for potential buyers is the time it will take for him to return to peak form, particularly in the demanding environment of the Premier League.

Last season, the midfielder played a pivotal role for Juventus and was a frequent figure in Les Bleus' starting lineup at the European Championship earlier this year.

Rabiot also amassed six league titles and 11 domestic cups during his time in Turin and the French capital with Paris Saint-Germain.

Juventus close door on Rabiot return

After failing to secure a move during the transfer window, there was speculation that Rabiot could head back to Turin this season, but Juventus manager Thiago Motta has now seemingly dismissed the possibility of the midfielder's return.

Speaking to the media this week, Motta said: "He hasn't called me. I love him as a boy and a player but he took a different path.

"I wish him success in finding a team where he can be happy and express his talent."

Rabiot had a brief stint in Manchester City's academy before returning to France in 2009 to join Pau FC's youth team.

The Frenchman has played for his country at every age level from the Under-16s upward, and has earned 48 caps for the senior national team.
