Antonio Valencia heading for the Championship?

Former Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia could be set for a move back to England with a Championship club, according to a report.

The 34-year-old left the Red Devils at the end of last season after his contract expired, re-signing with LDU Quito in his native Ecuador.

While Valencia was able to guide Quito to a domestic cup triumph, The Athletic reports that he has his heart set on a move back to England and he recently signed with the England-based agency OmniSports.

The Ecuadorian full-back spent most of December in London and Manchester and he is thought to believe that he has fully recovered from the thigh problems that dogged his final year with the Red Devils, setting him up for a return to English football.

The report indicates that Valencia has said he is prepared to play in the Championship and that while he still has a year left on his deal with Quito, they would be prepared to let him leave for a small fee.

Valencia, who scored 25 goals in 339 appearances for United over a 10-year period, was approached last year by David Beckham to join his new MLS franchise Inter Miami but a deal never came to fruition.
