Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes that Wayne Rooney will not leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes that Wayne Rooney will still be a Manchester United player next season.

The England striker's future has been called into question of late after he was named as a substitute for United's 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

However, Dalglish thinks that Rooney will not leave the Red Devils at the end of the season.

"So everyone is suggesting Wayne Rooney will be out of the door at Manchester United this summer," Dalglish wrote in his column in The Mirror.

"The first thing I'd say is that whatever Sir Alex Ferguson does, he will do with the best interests of his club in mind. The second thing is that it would be a hell of a job to get someone in who is better than Rooney.

"But they'll be back contending next season [in the Champions League], and I won't be surprised if Rooney is leading the line for them."

Ferguson recently stated that Rooney would still be at Old Trafford next season.
