Ed Woodward returns to Manchester?

A report says that chief executive Ed Woodward has left Manchester United's pre-season tour to conduct urgent transfer talks.

Manchester United's chief executive Ed Woodward has reportedly left the club's pre-season tour of Australia to carry out transfer business.

News of Woodward's supposed return has come on the same day that it was revealed that United had turned down a bid from Chelsea for the services of striker Wayne Rooney.

While there has been no official confirmation as to the reasons behind Woodward's decision to head back to Manchester, it has been claimed that the Rooney situation will be high on his agenda.

According to Sky Sports News, the official has made the trip to conduct some "urgent transfer business".

United have also been linked with Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas in recent days, while a report earlier today claimed that Chelsea would be willing to part with either David Luiz or Juan Mata to land Rooney - something that the Blues have since denied.
