Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani 'rejects Manchester United offer'

Wantaway Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani reportedly rejects a lucrative contract offer from Manchester United as he holds out for a move to Atletico Madrid.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has reportedly rejected a lucrative contract offer from Manchester United.

Cavani is expected to leave the Parc des Princes during the ongoing transfer window as he enters the final months of his contract, with Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and United all understood to be interested in his signature.

United's need for attacking reinforcements has been heightened by an injury to Marcus Rashford, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with only Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as striking options.

Footmercato claims that the Red Devils have offered Cavani a contract worth £10m per year in addition to a substantial signing-on fee, only for the 32-year-old to snub the approach.

The Uruguayan is thought to favour a move to Atletico Madrid, although the Spanish outfit have reportedly seen their initial bid turned down by PSG.

Cavani has handed in a transfer request in order to force through a January exit, but PSG's £20m asking price is understood to be a stumbling block for a player who would be available for free in the summer.

The former Napoli marksman is PSG's leading goalscorer of all time with 198 goals for the club across all competitions, but a mixture of form and fitness has limited him to just four Ligue 1 starts this season.
