Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is reportedly willing to wait for an approach from former club Valencia if he leaves Old Trafford at the end of his contract.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is reportedly holding out for a contract offer from former club Valencia.

Mata's current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, and there has been no indication from the club that they have opened talks over an extension.

The 30-year-old will be free to discuss terms with foreign clubs in January, and France Football reports that his preferred choice would be to return to Valencia.

Mata is understood to be happy to remain at United too, but if he is to leave then he is willing to wait and see whether the La Liga outfit make an approach.

The Spaniard made his name during a four-year spell at Valencia from 2007 to 2011, scoring 46 goals in 174 appearances for the club before joining Chelsea.

Mata has been in and out of the United team under Jose Mourinho, but has fought his way back into the manager's thinking in recent games and has started each of their last four matches.
