Jurgen Klopp 'expected Jadon Sancho to join Manchester United'

Liverpool reportedly decided against moving for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer because manager Jurgen Klopp expected him to join Manchester United.

Liverpool reportedly decided against attempting to sign Jadon Sancho this summer as manager Jurgen Klopp expected him to join Manchester United.

The Red Devils were persistently linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund winger throughout the summer window, but ultimately never got close to signing him after missing Dortmund's self-imposed deadline and failing to meet their asking price.

Liverpool have also been linked with Sancho and were in the market for a new attacker this summer, with the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Ismaila Sarr thought to be on their radar before they instead signed Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Athletic reports that the Premier League champions ultimately decided against a move for Sancho due to Klopp's belief that he would join United.

Liverpool were unable to compete with United financially due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, but did still complete deals for Thiago Alcantara and Kostas Tsimikas in addition to Jota.

Reports have suggested that Liverpool could instead go head to head with United for Sancho's signature next summer should their finances have improved.
