Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will have £100m to spend in the January transfer window, according to a report.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will reportedly have £100m to spend in the January transfer window.

Mourinho was desperate to bring a new central defender to Old Trafford during the summer, but the club are believed to have refused to sanction a move due to a perceived lack of value in the market.

United beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, but it has still been a disappointing start to the 2018-19 campaign, with a total of 17 points leaving them down in eighth spot in the Premier League table.

Mourinho's future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, but according to The Guardian, the Portuguese has the backing of the United board and has £100m to spend in January if he wishes.

The report claims that the Red Devils boss wants a centre-back in the winter window, but is also keen to sign a striker, with Romelu Lukaku currently struggling for goals.

United will return to Premier League action with a trip to in-form Bournemouth this weekend.
