Manchester United to rival Bayern Munich for £40m-rated Felipe Anderson?

Manchester United reportedly join Bayern Munich in the race to sign Lazio's Brazilian starlet Felipe Anderson.

Manchester United have joined Bayern Munich in the race to sign highly-rated Lazio attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has impressed in Italy following a 2013 move from Santos, with the Brazilian thought to have a £57m buy-out clause written into his contract - which expires in 2020.

United boss Louis van Gaal reportedly baulked at those figures in the summer but, according to The Mirror, the Dutchman is prepared to offer £40m for the youngster.

Bayern are also said to be keen on Anderson, though the Bundesliga giants are believed to only value him at £35m, tipping the advantage in the Red Devils' favour.
