Manchester United 'make final offer for Juan Mata to stay'

Juan Mata is mulling over a one-year deal at Manchester United with the option of a further 12 months, a report claims.

Manchester United have made one final contract offer to midfielder Juan Mata, according to a report.

The 31-year-old is into the final two months of his existing deal and is believed to have a pick of clubs to choose from, including Spanish champions Barcelona.

Mata has spent the past five-and-a-half years at Old Trafford and has not yet ruled out staying on for at least another 12 months.

The Manchester Evening News suggests that the Red Devils are also hopeful that a deal can be struck with the Spain international, and they have tabled updated terms for Mata to mull over.

United are said to have offered the former Chelsea ace a one-year deal, which contains the option of a further 12 months.

Wages could prove a sticking point, however, as Mata currently earns a reported £170,000 and United want to cut his salary.
