Manchester United have reportedly rejected a bid from Everton for defender Chris Smalling.
Harry Maguire's £80m move to Old Trafford earlier this week has added to an already-bloated defence comprising Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof and Smalling.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not want to dispense with Smalling and views the Englishman as an integral part of his plans for the 2019-20 campaign.
According to Sky Sports News, United have flatly rejected Everton's approach for Smalling as the Toffees push for signings ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.
Marco Silva's side saw a £70m bid for Wilfried Zaha rejected by Crystal Palace last week and have since launched a £30m offer for Alex Iwobi.
Smalling, who made 34 appearances last season, has been one of United's more dependable defenders in recent times, with others like Bailly and Rojo frequently on the injury table.
