Manchester United could reportedly sell Wayne Rooney to another Premier League club, despite United's public stance that the striker is "not for sale".

Manchester United are reportedly open to selling striker Wayne Rooney in the summer transfer window, with a potential switch to a rival Premier League club on the cards.

The North-West outfit have publicly claimed that the England international is "not for sale" following reports that the 27-year-old told manager Sir Alex Ferguson two weeks ago that he wanted to end his stint at United.

Despite the Red Devils' public stance, it is understood that the club could be planning a clear-out involving Rooney, who is said to be unlikely to move abroad in favour of a switch to another top-flight club, according to Sky Sports News.

Manchester City were touted as a possible destination for the striker when he asked to leave United in 2010 before signing a five-year contract extension, while Chelsea have been linked with a swoop for Rooney in the last few days.

It is believed that the English champions are also open to offloading Nani and Anderson when the window opens.
