Marcos Rojo opens up on showdown talks with Jose Mourinho

Marcos Rojo reveals that he 'feared' approaching Jose Mourinho to ask the Manchester United manager about his lack of minutes last season.

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has revealed that he held face-to-face talks with manager Jose Mourinho at the end of last season over his lack of playing time.

The 28-year-old, who is currently away on international duty with Argentina, appeared just 12 times overall for the Red Devils in a frustrating 2017-18 campaign.

Eight of those outings were starts, inevitably leading to talk of a summer exit being on the cards for the former Spartak Moscow and Sporting Lisbon ace.

Rojo has now opened up on his end-of-season discussion with Mourinho, admitting that he 'feared' instigating the conversation.

"I cannot blame him, but at the end of the season, with fear, I went to talk to him and I tried to ask him what was going on," he told Argentine newspaper Ole.

"He told me there were several in situations similar to mine. And he was going to put the one in who was better."

Rojo signed a contract extension at Old Trafford in March to keep him tied down until 2021, with the option of a further 12 months.
