Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is hopeful that Anthony Martial will sign a new contract at Old Trafford.
Martial, 22, has scored four times in his last three Premier League appearances for United during an impressive run, but the attacker's current deal will expire at the end of the season.
The Frenchman is believed to have recently turned down the offer of a new contract, although the Red Devils do have the option of a one-year extension this summer.
Mourinho was reportedly keen to sell Martial during the summer, but the United boss is hopeful that the Frenchman will stay at Old Trafford and become "a top player".
"I don't belong to the discussions of contracts. I don't even know their contracts in the sense of numbers and I'm really happy with that - to not have to participate in these types of discussions," Mourinho told reporters.
"Obviously I hope we will agree. He is a talented player - everybody has known that since he was at Monaco. Another thing is a talented player with consistency and understanding what a football match is in the globality.
"When you reach that level or are almost reaching that level is when you become a top player. One thing is a top talent, another thing is a top player. When he is now much closer to becoming a top player, obviously I would like him to stay. I know the club very much wants him to stay so hopefully he is going to stay."
Martial has managed 41 goals and 26 assists in 147 appearances for United since arriving from Monaco in 2015.
