Manchester United's David Moyes: 'Wayne Rooney not bigger than the club'

Manchester United manager David Moyes insists that Wayne Rooney is not bigger than the club and will not let hype surrounding his future dominate his time.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has insisted that Wayne Rooney is not bigger than the club.

The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with Chelsea and Arsenal reportedly interested in the striker.

Moyes told reporters: "I've got to ensure it's not just him and we don't concentrate on him. Manchester United isn't about Wayne, Manchester United is about the team, the club.

"We are talking about him now and rightly so but what I won't allow is Wayne Rooney to become more important than the club and the team because that's the heart of it.

"This is a chance for me to get Wayne right back to where he was. That is the challenge and that's a challenge I want to take on. He's got a major role to play, we need to get him as many goals as we can."

Rooney was sent home from United's tour of Asia after injuring his hamstring in a training session.
