Raiola: 'Haaland turned down Man United move'

Erling Braut Haaland turned down a move to Manchester United to sign for Borussia Dortmund, according to the striker's agent Mino Raiola.

Erling Braut Haaland turned down Manchester United to agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund, according to the Red Bull Salzburg striker's agent Mino Raiola.

Dortmund announced over the weekend that they had won the race to sign the 19-year-old, who has scored 28 times in 22 club appearances during the 2019-20 campaign.

Reports claimed that the Red Devils had rejected the chance to sign the Norway international as they were not prepared to meet the terms of the deal proposed by Raiola.

However, the teenager's agent has insisted that Haaland simply rejected a switch to Old Trafford as he believed that Dortmund were the better option at this stage of his career.

"The club that he had the most direct contact with him was Manchester United," Raiola told The Telegraph. "They spoke to him the most. Everybody had the chance to talk to him in person. We let that happen especially when he knows Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer].

"Clearly he [Haaland] felt that at this moment it was not the right step in his career. There is nothing against Manchester United or Ole. He chose Borussia Dortmund ahead of them and other clubs and I'm very happy because he is going to the club he wanted to go to and that is best for him right now.

"If he wanted to go to Manchester United I would have been obliged to take him to Manchester United but he did not."

Haaland, who had a £17m release clause in his Salzburg contract, will officially join Dortmund at the start of January.
