Manchester United are reportedly maintaining their interest in Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane following the close of the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils did not heavily strengthen their team over January, but it is understood that defensive targets are at the top of their wishlist in the summer.
Reports that United were going to launch a last-ditch effort to sign Varane before Monday's deadline were quashed by Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, but rumours suggest that the defender remains a target.
According to The Independent, United are considering a £35m bid for Varane, but may have to battle Chelsea for his signature as Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on bringing the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.
Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is also said to be a priority for United.
