Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reportedly informed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he cannot make any permanent signings in the winter transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will reportedly not receive backing from Manchester United chiefs to bring in any permanent signings next month.

The former European Cup winner was brought in as United's caretaker manager earlier this week following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Solskjaer's reign began in style on Saturday afternoon as he saw his side earn a 5-1 win over Premier League strugglers Cardiff City - the first time the Red Devils have netted five times in a game since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

However, with the transfer window due to open in 10 days' time, the Norwegian will not be allowed to make any signings for the future.

Instead, The Mirror suggests that Solskjaer has been informed by vice-chairman Ed Woodward that he is only able to recruit loanees, with cash being earmarked for United's next permanent boss.

United have spent a reported £750m on new players under three managers since Ferguson stepped aside, with Mourinho responsible for £410m of that across five transfer windows.
