Wigan Athletic are reportedly hoping to secure the services of Manchester United's Nick Powell on a loan basis.

Wigan Athletic's new manager Owen Coyle has reportedly identified Nick Powell as his first transfer target at the DW Stadium.

The 19-year-old joined Manchester United from Crewe Alexandra in 2012, but a succession of injuries limited him to just six appearances in all competitions last season.

He is due to be fit for the start of pre-season, though, and Coyle is hoping to convince new United manager David Moyes to part with the midfielder by sanctioning a season-long loan deal, according to The People.

Powell's only goal for the Red Devils came against Latics last September.
