A report claims that Manchester United and Liverpool ended their long-running interest in Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey as they could not match his wage demands.

Manchester United and Liverpool reportedly pulled out of the running to sign Aaron Ramsey due to the Arsenal midfielder's excessive wage demands.

The Wales international has agreed a four-year deal with Juventus that is rumoured to be worth £400,000 a week, making him the second-best paid British player of all time behind compatriot Gareth Bale.

Free agent Ramsey was also touted as a target for the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan, while Arsenal's top-flight rivals United and Liverpool have also been linked.

According to the London Evening Standard, however, the Premier League duo ended their interest as soon as they were informed of the salary Ramsey was being offered by Juventus.

Ramsey's exit will officially go through in the summer and ends his 11-year association with Arsenal after joining from Cardiff City for £5m 11 years ago.
