Manchester United are reportedly giving consideration to extending the contract of midfielder Nemanja Matic.
The Serbia international has recently fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, leading to speculation regarding a possible move to Inter Milan.
With Matic's existing deal due to expire in the summer, Inter are allegedly ready to make a cut-price offer at the midway point of the campaign.
However, according to the Daily Mail, United are prepared to throw a spanner in the works in order to prevent Matic from leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The North-West outfit possess the option to extend the 31-year-old's contract by a further 12 months, which would put them in a position to demand a bigger fee.
Matic has made just four starts and one substitute outing in all competitions this season.
