Nemanja Vidic: 'England can thrive at the World Cup'

Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic believes that England have a good chance of doing well at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has claimed that England have a good chance of doing well at this summer's World Cup.

Vidic, who will play for Inter Milan next season following an eight-year spell at United, retired from international football with Serbia in 2011.

However, the 32-year-old believes that the Three Lions could benefit from less pressure being on them this time compared to their disastrous campaign in 2010.

"If you ask me about England, to be fair, I think they have more chance this year than last time," Vidic told United's official website.

"Maybe they have better players and I think the environment around the national team is better with lower expectations and this will help the players.

"I think there is not the same kind of pressure from the media and, as they don't expect too much, there is a chance to do something. I'm not saying they are going to win it but they could do well."

England get their World Cup campaign underway against Italy in Manaus on June 14.
