Tony Mowbray praises Jason Steele for the penalty save he made during Middlesbrough's 4-2 victory over Blackpool on Saturday.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray has underlined the importance of Jason Steele's penalty save in the 4-2 victory over Blackpool at the Riverside Stadium.

Thomas Ince was denied by the goalkeeper from 12 yards with the score at 3-2 and Mowbray admits that he was nervous when the penalty was controversially conceded.

"It was a bit nervous in the second half and when we gave away the penalty it looked as if we would throw it all away but Jason made a truly fantastic save to keep us in front," said Mowbray.

"The frustration is that an official 70 yards away can over rule one 10 yards away without even having a discussion. That was a little strange.

"But in end it wasn't crucial because Jason made the save, we won the game, we got the three points and we move on."

Mowbray's side are now third in the Championship, one point outside the automatic promotion places.
