Burnley slip up at Middlesbrough

Burnley are knocked off top spot in the Championship table after losing 1-0 at Middlesbrough.

Burnley have been knocked off top spot in the Championship table after losing at Middlesbrough.

Emanuele Ledesema's second goal of the season was enough to secure back-to-back wins for Boro for the first time in 2013.

The result sees the Teeside club climb to 16th, while the Clarets drop out of the automatic promotion places.

Ledesema broke the deadlock on 24 minutes with a long-range effort. He collected the ball from Marvin Emnes, before unleashing a fierce drive that bounced just in front of goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Burnley came close to equalising on the stroke of half time when Danny Ings forced a save out of Shay Given.

The visitors continued to push for a leveller after the break and Dean Marney spurned a glorious chance, missing the target with a header from five yards.

Given's fine day then continued, as the Irishman produced a vital stop late on to keep out Junior Stanislas from 25 yards.
