Kieran Richardson has reportedly been identified as one of six possible targets for Napoli.
Due to an injury to Faouzi Ghoulam, Napoli are short of cover at left-back and are said to be considering bringing in a new player on a free transfer.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Richardson could come into contention for a surprise move to the Serie A giants, despite having not made a competitive appearance since December 2016.
The 33-year-old - who counts Manchester United, Sunderland and Aston Villa among his former clubs - made six outings for Cardiff City in the Championship last season.
Guilherme Siqueira, Djamel Mesbah, Hrvoje Milic, Benoit Tremoulinas and Michelangelo Albertazzi have also been suggested as possible options for Maurizio Sarri.
