David Villa hints at loan move

New York City FC's experienced forward David Villa hints that a short-term return to La Liga in January would be of interest.

Experienced forward David Villa has hinted that he could leave New York City FC on loan in January, providing that his MLS club agree to a deal.

The MLS season is not yet over, but New York City cannot finish in a playoff position and it is understood that a host of La Liga clubs have contacted the 33-year-old over a short-term return to Spain.

Villa has revealed that he would be interested in moving on loan before the new MLS season starts next March, but has insisted that he would only leave with his current club's blessing.

"Since it became mathematically impossible to make the playoffs, there have been calls from all over the place. Well, not calling directly, but the hypothetical case of a loan move has been made," Villa told El Murcielago.

"I mean, the truth is that there are a lot of rumours coming from everywhere, but there is nothing concrete. I've not even analysed the idea of going on loan, though, because I don't know if it's a real possibility. Right now, I want to finish the season well. I don't know if it would be the best decision for the club, who want me to rest and be ready to return on January 21."

Villa, who represented the likes of Valencia, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in Spain's top flight, has scored 17 times in 28 league games for New York City.
