Newcastle United teenager Mehdi Abeid targets a run in the club's first team next season.

Newcastle United teenager Mehdi Abeid has revealed that he wants to impress Magpies boss Alan Pardew ahead of the new season.

The 19-year-old joined the club from Lens last summer, but he made just two first-team appearances in both cup competitions in the last campaign.

However, the youngster has targeted a role in the team next season, as Newcastle look to balance domestic and European football.

"I have progressed a lot over the last year. I have worked with good people and played with good players and that has been very important for me as a young player," he told the club's official website.

"I hope to progress every day and continue to progress. I want to do more. I would like to keep up what happened last season. I need to keep up the same work, keep the same frame of mind, and hopefully will get to play more games."

Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League last season.
