Alan Pardew: 'Transfer market needs patience'

Alan Pardew says that patience is the key to bringing quality players to St. James' Park.

Alan Pardew has asked Newcastle United fans to stay patient as he scours Europe for new recruits.

Pardew has so far struggled to bring in fresh faces this summer after having a number of early inquiries rejected.

The United boss remains confident that he can bring quality to the club and improve the squad.

Pardew said: "You have to be patient in the market sometimes to get the man that you want. Nine times out of 10, the two owners get together and it all becomes very realistic.

"It's all well and good a club asking for an unrealistic figure, but the bottom line is that the price will be the price."

Pardew also revealed that he will need to rely on younger players in his squad with European football on the agenda.

He said: "I don't envisage too many coming in because I have got some great young players who have not seen a lot of football.

"I don't really want to bring in experienced players just to make my squad bigger, I just want us to be a tight ship, and we will utilise everybody we have at the club."

Newcastle begin the new campaign at home to Tottenham Hotspur on August 18.
