Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden insists that his team are approaching this season on a game-to-game basis.

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has revealed that his team are approaching this season on a game-to-game basis.

The Magpies have collected 14 points from their nine Premier League matches this season, which has left them in seventh position in the table - just two points off fifth-placed Watford.

Next up for Newcastle is a trip to Burnley on Monday night, and Hayden has claimed that his side will again look at that match in isolation rather than as part of a potential winning run.

"We found that the whole of last season. There were games where people thought we would win, and we didn't. Football changes all the time. You have games like Southampton, where we should have got three points," The Chronicle quotes Hayden as saying.

"That's football for you. There are ups and downs. We're ready for that during the season. I don't really think the lads do look at the table, because it's pointless at this stage of the season as there are so many games to go and points to play for. It means nothing.

"The most important thing we look at is each game. Three points were up for grabs (against Palace) and we took them. The next game's another opportunity to get three points."

Only Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have a better home record than Newcastle at this stage of the Premier League season.
