Daryl Janmaat: 'Newcastle United players fighting to keep Alan Pardew in a job'

Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat insists that he and his teammates will continue to work hard in order to pick up a first Premier League win of the season.

Daryl Janmaat has declared that Newcastle United's players are "fighting" to keep Alan Pardew in his job following a poor start to the season.

The Magpies boss has come under fire having failed to win a single game in the Premier League this season, which has seen the club drop down to 18th place in the table.

Pardew's future remains in doubt, although Janmaat insists that the squad will do all that they can to turn around their current fortunes.

"Yes we are playing for him, we do not want him to get sacked, we want him here," the right-back is quoted as saying by The Northern Echo. "He is good for us and we are fighting for him. I don't listen to what the fans are chanting. I focus on playing the game.

"We have a very important game against Leicester at home when we come back and that is a game we have to win. We must keep working hard and I hope the next sequence of games will see us pick up a few more points.

"We feel like that win is close, we were pretty close at Swansea and now we have to make sure we do it against Leicester. You cannot say there is any lack of effort."

Janmaat withdrew from international duty with the Netherlands yesterday due to a hamstring injury.
