Steve McClaren: 'Managing Newcastle United is tough'

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren believes that he has taken on his toughest job by becoming the North-East side's head coach.

Steve McClaren has admitted that he has taken on his most difficult job by becoming head coach of Newcastle United.

The former England boss was appointed by the Magpies on a three-year deal last week, succeeding John Carver as boss.

McClaren has reiterated that he is keen to be a success at St James' Park.

"This has probably got to be the toughest one (job), one of the biggest," the 54-year-old told the Shields Gazette.

"I've had lots of experience and I feel I'm ready to take this challenge on and to take this club forward. I can't do it on my own and I need good people around me.

"I'm excited and can't wait to get started at a huge club. All I want to is to help bring success not just for the players but for the fans as well."

McClaren has also managed Middlesbrough, FC Twente, Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest and Derby County.
