Alan Pardew accepts Football Association punishment

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says that he accepts the seven-game ban for headbutting David Meyler.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he will not contest the seven-match suspension that he was handed by the Football Association this afternoon.

The 52-year-old was given the punishment for headbutting Hull City midfielder David Meyler at the KC Stadium on March 1.

Both Pardew and the club have accepted the ban, three games of which are from the stadium, while he will be allowed to sit in the stands for the remaining four encounters.

"As I have made clear, I deeply regret the incident and again wholeheartedly apologise to all parties for my conduct, which I understand was not acceptable," Pardew said in a statement on the club's official website.

"I will accept the punishment handed down by the FA today. My focus now turns to preparing the team for this weekend's game against Fulham and finishing the season as strongly as possible."

Pardew has also been fined £60,000 and warned of his future conduct.
