Alan Pardew hopeful of continued success in important week

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew wants his side to use their victory over Chelsea to spur them on in a season-defining week for the Magpies.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is hopeful that his side can use their victory over Chelsea as a springboard for further success in an important week for the club.

The Magpies ended the Blues' unbeaten run in the Premier League with a 2-1 win at St James' Park, and now face a big week of fixtures starting with a trip to Arsenal, while they also face Tottenham Hotspur in their Capital One Cup quarter-final match and then bitter rivals Sunderland next Sunday.

"I think it is very important that it isn't a case of after the Lord Mayor's show following Chelsea and that every game now we set up as a bigger game," Pardew told the club's official website.

"This is a huge game on Saturday night. Then we have Tottenham in the quarter-finals and Sunderland, so it is a really big week and hopefully we can perform in each of them.

"Arsenal away will be a difficult one. They gave us a thumping last season, and the year before when we were really in the game and in a great position, they scored three or four at the end and gave us an embarrassing scoreline."

Pardew was named Premier League Manager of the Month for his side's displays in November.
