Report: Newcastle United line up five-man managerial shortlist

A report suggests that Newcastle United have put together a five-man shortlist of candidates to replace Alan Pardew, including Dick Advocaat and Remi Garde.

Newcastle United have reportedly lined up a five-man shortlist of managers to replace Alan Pardew, with Dick Advocaat and Remi Garde among the candidates.

Pardew officially left the Magpies on Saturday after four years with the club, signing a contract with Crystal Palace to become their new manager.

Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley and scout Graham Carr are now searching for the 53-year-old's successor at St James' Park, with Advocaat and Garde believed to be on their radar.

The Magpies are also interested in St Etienne's Christophe Galtier, Borussia Moenchengladbach's Lucien Favre and former Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel.

A source told The People: "The trouble we will have in appointing a new man is that some are tied up with long contracts while others, like Remi Garde, are taking a break from the game after his three-year successful stint at Lyon."

Newcastle caretaker boss John Carver declared that he was interested in the full-time role after his side crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Leicester City.
