Gabriel Obertan hints at January departure

Newcastle United winger Gabriel Obertan admits that he will assess his options in January after finding first-team opportunities limited this season.

Gabriel Obertan has revealed that he may be forced to leave Newcastle United in the next transfer window if he continues to be starved of first-team opportunities.

The French winger's only appearance for the Magpies this season has been off the bench in their Capital One Cup success over Leeds United, although he has been named in several Premier League squads.

"Everything is possible. I will see what's going on until December, and I'll see what's best for me and the club," Obertan told the Shields Gazette. "I can't obviously keep on being on the bench and not being involved.

"I'll see what's best for the club and me. I'm feeling good physically and mentally at the moment. I'm quite confident. It's not easy to be on the bench and not come on, but it's part and parcel of the job.

"I just have to keep waiting and working hard. It's a test, mentally. You must keep on focusing on an opportunity, because you never know when it will come. I'll be ready for it."

Obertan, 24, has made 50 appearances for Newcastle, scoring twice in the process, since moving to Tyneside from their Premier League rivals Manchester United in 2011.
