Dean Holdsworth open to talks with Newport County about becoming manager

Former Newport County manager Dean Holdsworth says that he is open to a return to the club, whom he led to the Conference South title in his first spell in charge.

Dean Holdsworth has said that he is open to talks with Newport County about becoming their manager for the second time.

Justin Edinburgh left the League Two side to take over at Gillingham last month, with Jimmy Dack placed in caretaker charge.

Holdsworth told BBC Sport: "I'm obviously going to be linked with Newport, who are a club I respect and there are people there I really respect.

"I don't know what the club are thinking. They know that I'd certainly want to talk to them about that position if it became available."

Holdsworth, 46, spent three years in charge at Newport from 2008 to 2011, having played for them in the 2006-07 season. The former Wimbledon striker lead them to the Conference South title in 2009, before leaving for Aldershot in January 2011.

He was sacked by Aldershot in February 2013, and has been out of management since leaving Chelmsford City after five months in November 2013.
