Clarke Carlisle hospitalised after being hit by lorry

Former Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a lorry.

Former Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle is in hospital after being hit by a lorry on Monday morning.

The 35-year-old was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with life-threatening injuries after the incident that took place near Bishopthorpe in North Yorkshire.

The cause of the accident is unknown and North Yorkshire Police have only confirmed that a 35-year-old man was struck by a lorry on the A64 South of York.

A tweet from the Football Association this evening read: "The thoughts and prayers of all at the FA are with Clarke Carlisle and his family at this sad time."

Carlisle was previously the chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association and is also also a leading ambassador for the anti-discrimination group Kick It Out.
