PFA will send out a guidebook to footballer's on how to handle depression following the death of Wales boss Gary Speed.

The Professional Footballers' Association are believed to be sending out a 36-page handbook to all 4,000 members on how to deal with depression following Gary Speed's apparent suicide.

The PFA are eager to inform current footballers of the support available to them through the handbook, according to the Daily Mail.

While the decision is thought to be prompted by the death of 42-year-old Wales manager Gary Speed, it is not confirmed that the ex-Newcastle United midfielder was suffering with depression.

"If nothing else I hope this tragedy can encourage people who need help to not hesitate to ask for it," PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor is quoted as saying.

"I want them to know there is a support system in place to understand their concerns and address them."

Reports claim that up to 50,000 former footballers will also be sent the guidebook.
