Premier League respond to Sepp Blatter's racism comments

The Premier League state that they have always "tackled" racism in the English game.

The Premier League has released a statement clarifying that racism is "unacceptable" in the English game.

The statement was made following FIFA president Sepp Blatter's comments that racism can be forgotten with a hand shake, which has caused a public outrage.

The league said: "The English game has been at the forefront of tackling racist behaviour and other forms of discrimination. Everybody in the game in England understands any form of racism is totally unacceptable.

"There are still issues, as there are in society, so with our partners, Kick It Out, the PFA and the FA, we must remain committed and vigilant to maintaining the standards we have set and confronting any incidents that occur."

Meanwhile, Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has called for Blatter's resignation.
