Aidy Bothroyd "grateful" for time

Northampton Town boss Aidy Boothroyd thanks the club for handing him the opportunity to overcome a poor start to the season.

Northampton Town boss Aidy Boothroyd is confident that he can steer the club away from relegation trouble in 2014.

The League Two outfit currently sit 23rd in the table having collected just 18 points from their 20 matches, but they are just one point from safety.

Boothroyd has also claimed that he is "grateful" to have been given the time to implement change in a period where a number of managers have lost their jobs.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to turn this around because part of it is my mess," Boothroyd told the Herald & Post.

"My reputation's on the line, and when you've got a reputation on the line you do all you can to make it work. I think that it's very, very easy to chop and change and to move people out.

"I'm still the same guy that got Watford promoted, I'm still the same guy that took us out of relegation trouble and the same guy that then took us to a playoff final."

"Does that mean I'm brilliant? No it doesn't, it doesn't mean I'm brilliant at all. But what it means is I'm competent at a job and I can do it. Whether we're doing really, really well, or really, really badly, I'm still the same person. And if you're happy with that, then you stick with that as far as I'm concerned."

Northampton face Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.
