Norwich City's Gary Hooper doubtful for Everton clash

Chris Hughton says that Gary Hooper will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of this afternoon's opening Premier League clash with Everton.

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton has said that Gary Hooper is doubtful ahead of Everton's visit to Carrow Road.

The 25-year-old - a £5.5m arrival from Celtic this summer - suffered a knock during last weekend's friendly with Panathinaikos.

Hughton said that he will continue to monitor the striker ahead of the opener, but revealed that Sebastien Bassong and Anthony Pilkington will definitely miss the opener.

"Gary Hooper is touch and go and we plan to give him right up until the last minute [to prove his fitness]," he told the club's official website.

"Seb is back in training and took part in the midweek development game. He came through that fine but he will just miss out, as will Anthony Pilkington who will start training again on Monday."

Norwich won this fixture last season thanks to a late goal from Grant Holt.
