New Nottingham Forest manager Alex McLeish says that he has inherited a good squad from Sean O'Driscoll.

Newly-appointed Nottingham Forest manager Alex McLeish has said that there is no need to make sweeping changes to the squad he has inherited from Sean O'Driscoll.

Owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi took the controversial decision to sack O'Driscoll as manager following their 4-1 victory over Leeds United on Boxing Day, despite the club sitting eighth in the Championship, just one point outside the playoff spaces.

The Scot, who was sacked by Aston Villa at the end of last season, was unveiled as O'Driscoll's replacement yesterday, and spoke of his excitement at the opportunity to guide the club back to the Premier League.

"It's a terrific opportunity, to come to a club of Nottingham Forest's magnitude," McLeish told reporters. "It looks an absolutely wonderful challenge for me.

"We're one point off playoffs so we have to try and target getting into the top six and ultimately gunning for the Premier League. What we want to see is Forest mounting a very serious challenge and the proceedings and that will be my goal, working with the team and working with the staff.

"There's a good bunch of players there who play some good football, so 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'."

Forest welcome Crystal Palace to the City Ground tomorrow.
