Preview: Oldham Athletic vs. Leyton Orient - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League Two clash between Oldham Athletic and Leyton Orient, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Oldham Athletic will continue to fight against the threat of relegation on Tuesday when they welcome Leyton Orient to Boundary Park, with the hosts currently three points adrift of safety.

The O's have managed to push themselves away from that situation, and are currently focused on ending the season strongly, with the chance to push towards the top half.

Oldham Athletic are currently in the League Two relegation zone, staring down the possibility of dropping out of the division, which is something they are fighting hard against.

Right now the club are three points adrift of safety, with Stevenage sat just above them, showcasing the potential that just one victory could have on the fortunes of everybody associated.

However, it has been nine games since they last picked up three points, and a more concerning problem is the fact the squad have lost six matches consecutively heading into this one.

KD Davis had given Oldham the lead on Saturday when they hosted Mansfield Town, but that was not something they could hold onto as Rhys Oates equalised before a 95th-minute George Lapslie goal created late heartbreak.

At home the Latics have struggled this season, winning only three times in front of their own fans, which is a situation John Sheridan will be desperate to fix for the run-in.

Leyton Orient, on the other hand, are in the complete opposite form at the moment, being undefeated in their previous seven matches, which has allowed them to push away from the relegation zone.

The O's come into this one on the back of three consecutive victories, where they have shown some attacking flair, scoring eight goals and only conceding one along the way.

This included a dominant 2-0 win against Barrow on Saturday where Paul Smyth and Ruel Sotiriou got themselves on the scoresheet as Lawrence Vigouroux secured another clean sheet.

Richie Wellens has had a tremendous impact since taking charge of the club, turning around their fortunes, and he shall now be looking to help the club kick on further up the table.

Leyton Orient will also take confidence from the fact they defeated Oldham 4-0 earlier this season when they met, which is a result they would be happy to repeat.

Team News

Christopher Missilou is still unavailable for Oldham Athletic due to the fact he is on international duty, which is something that Sheridan has had to accommodate for.

However, the Latics could welcome back Sam Hart on Tuesday as he has now served his suspension, meaning he is eligible for selection if that choice is made.

Harrison McGahey is another fitness concern for the hosts, as he has been out of action lately due to a thigh issue, which once again kept him from playing on Saturday.

Smyth was brought into the Leyton Orient team specifically for the recent game against Barrow, and after getting himself on the scoresheet it is likely he will retain his place in the team.

Meanwhile, the rich form of Sotiriou continued in that match as well, as he added another goal to his tally which is likely going to keep him in the starting lineup as well.

Oldham Athletic possible starting lineup:
Rogers; Clarke, Sutton, Piergianni, Couto; Whelan, Stobbs, Adams, Bahamboula; Davis, Hope

Leyton Orient possible starting lineup:
Vigouroux; Thompson, Beckles, Ogie, Wood; Pratley, Kyprianou, Sotiriou; Archibald, Smyth, Drinan

We say: Oldham Athletic 0-3 Leyton Orient

These teams are in completely contrasting form right now, and because of that, it should be another chance for Leyton Orient to get themselves three points on the board.

The visitors have been defensively strong lately, while also adding some attacking flair, and that should be the difference between them in this game.
