Cape Verde stun Portugal

Goals from Odair Fortes and Gege give Cape Verde a shock 2-0 lead against Portugal.

Portugal have slipped to a shock 2-0 reverse to minnows Cape Verde in an international friendly this evening.

Goals from Odair Fortes and Gege were enough for the visitors, who stunned an experimental Selecao side in Estoril.

Portugal largely dominated proceedings in the first period, but it was the visitors who had the first real chance of the half on 13 minutes.

Odair Fortes's powerful run ended with a cross to Julio Tavares who saw his effort deflected behind for a corner.

Hugo Almeida fired in a powerful effort for the Seleccao on 24 minutes, but Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha did enough to turn the ball behind.

Cape Verde took a surprise lead nine minutes before the break when Fortes sliced an effort into the corner from just outside the penalty area.

Vierinha's fierce effort three minutes into the second half almost halved the deficit but Vozinha did enough to turn the ball around the post.

Portugal's task was made all the more difficult when Andre Pinto was shown a straight red card for bringing down Heldon Ramos just before the hour mark.

Vitorino Antunes's cross was met by Andre, but the header flew just over the bar with seven minutes remaining.

Eder then spurned Portugal's best chance of the game with three minutes remaining when he fired wide with the goal at his mercy.
