Half-Time Report: Paris Saint-Germain on course for Champions League quarter-finals

PSG are 45 minutes away from reaching the Champions League quarters having gone into half time of their second leg against Bayer Leverkusen level at 1-1 on the night.

Paris Saint-Germain are 45 minutes away from reaching the Champions League quarter-finals, having gone into the halfway stage of their second leg against Bayer Leverkusen level at 1-1 on the night.

The visitors threatened after just three minutes when Emre Can created space for himself to shoot, before curling an effort towards the bottom corner that Salvatore Sirigu did well to turn away.

Sirigu could do nothing about Leverkusen's opening goal just three minutes later, however, as Sidney Sam rose to steer Giulio Donati's cross past the keeper and give his side hopes of a remarkable comeback.

However, that glimmer of hope was soon extinguished by a PSG equaliser as Marquinhos climbed highest in the box to nod a corner past Bernd Leno and make it 5-1 on aggregate.

The hosts came within inches of taking the lead just five minutes later when Zlatan Ibrahimovic attempted a chip over the keeper, only to see his effort come back off the crossbar.

Leverkusen had a glorious chance to regain the lead on the night when Christophe Jallet pulled Eren Derdiyok back as the Swiss striker was clean through in the penalty area.

The referee subsequently pointed at the spot, but Simon Rolfes squandered the chance with a weak penalty that Sirigu comfortably saved.

Edison Cavani had been quiet for the hosts throughout the first half, but he almost burst into life in the 38th minute when he latched on to Ibrahimovic's pass before seeing his shot saved by Leno.
